WVSU Yellow Jacket — Peeps not just for marshmallow lovers
By Sean Rose
It’s not everyday that someone just gives you an album they hate and you really end up loving.
Peeps’ album "Which Wayz Up" fell into my hands the other day from a friend and the order was to remove it from her sight. Being the pack rat I am, I didn’t want to throw away a brand new CD, even if I didn’t think I would like it. So I took it home.
The disc has a smooth, laid back feel to it and I took to it right away. I don’t know much about Peeps and I couldn’t find anything on the Internet other than Peeps marshmallow candy. So I can’t say I am a die-hard fan. I am saying the album is good. Go buy it.
Peeps’ songs cover topics like not selling her body to promote her album, what is life outside of the game and focusing on where you are headed in life instead of the neighborhood where you are from.
Production isn’t mainstream big budget, but real acoustic guitars and orchestration make up for the lack of polish. The music sounds real. You can tell humans are behind the groove and not a computer sampler and drummachine. That keeps me diggin’ it all the way across the CD which doesn’t happen with too many recordings these days.
Peeps real twist on the formula makes her stand out in a crowd of MTV land copy cats. Lay this disc in the tray, pour some wine and get laid back with your lady or man. You won’t be disappointed.
I am an american artist.
