The Smashing Pumkins have released their final album in a very strange way. It’s FREE.
Coming as a surprise to fans, the band decided to call it quits after lackluster album sales and lack of support from their record company.
As a final “thank you” to the fans and as a big “*&^% YOU!” to the record companies, The Pumkins’ gave away 25 vinyl copies of “Machina II” with explicit instructions to release the music to fans via the controversial MP3 format and the Internet.
“Machina II” is the follow up to “Machina/the machines of God” and consists of 25 never before released tracks. The album definately has the Machina sound, but fans will find some rocking gems in there that are reminiscent of the drug-powered monsters “Gish” and “Siamese Dream.”
As my journalistic duty calls, I have provided all 25 tracks/MP3s on my website, cycline3.com, complete with cover art for those of you with CD burners who want a CD version with a jacket. But it’s for a limited time only so grab it now.
