WVSU Yellow Jacket — Give teens a break

During our abnormal heat wave, it seems students around Kanawha and Putnam counties broke out the shorts. Not a big surprise when the needle passes 80 degrees.
However, the local school boards seem to think our high school students are incapable of wearing shorts and maintaining a decent demeanor. Students must abide by the "3 inches above the knee" rule or be sent home.
At Hurricane High some 50 students were sent home because of indecent attire. Meaning shorts. Why would our school systems worry about such nonsense?
I believe the faculty must be afraid that exposing flesh might make our teenagers more inclined to focus on each other than their studies. News flash people, those kids ARE focused on each other, period.
In case you are too old to remember having hormones and desires, let me remind you of a few things.
Shorts are not going to make teens have sex.
Teens are going to have sex because they WANT to.
"Back in the day" when I was in our fine public school system, sex was had on teacher’s desks, the backseat of automobiles, in the library and across the lawn at friend’s apartments.
These teens aren’t stupid. The ones abstaining from sex are going to continue to do so. The sexually active ones are going to keep going at it too. So give our near legal adults some credit. Let them wear shorts and talk to them about SEX if you are worried about them having it.
